‘Tis the season to be present

During the holidays, most of us hustle and bustle around, stressing over finding that perfect gifts for our loved ones. Or the most thoughtful hostess gift to bring to the Christmas gathering. Or the most creative dessert to share with co-workers.

I would like to offer up an idea: let’s carve out more time WITH those we love for purposeful, relational time instead of shopping. Essentially, let’s give our presence instead of presents.

Whether it’s a snowy walk, taking in a holiday concert, watching skaters zoom around the ice rink, or delivering food, socks and blankets to the local shelter, I personally think the richest blessing is that of being present and personally interacting with one another.

Let’s change our holiday to-do list from…. to….

  • Shop for food… Donate food
  • Buy presents… Be present
  • Wrap gifts… Wrap someone in a hug
  • Send gifts… Send peace
  • See the lights… Be the light

Let’s make some memories this holiday!
