I love the New Year’s holiday. It always feels like a fresh start to me. But like many of you, I’m guessing, I get tripped up by setting resolutions. The freshness of the calendar inspires me to improve everything and do more. The voice in my head that often checks my reality reminds me I’m taking on too much, and I’m not being, well, realistic.
Are you tired of setting unreasonable expectations? Tired of constructing mountains to climb? In 2021, let’s simply move forward. My only new year’s resolution is to take baby steps, which are, in fact, stepsafter all.
While we are all thrilled to put 2020 in the rearview mirror, the pandemic isn’t magically over with the flip of the calendar. Life is tough, and it will be for a while longer.
With a New Year starting, I’m going to remind myself: we don’t have to conquer the world in one day. Whether it’s a new project, a lifelong goal, or, in the midst of a pandemic, just focusing on staying healthy and sane, one day at time – small steps still get us to our destinations.
Let’s banish unrealistic expectations. Let’s take baby steps, and not forget self-praise, back-pats, and gratitude along the way.
What kind of small steps are you ready to take?
